A lorgnette is quite simply, a pair of spectacles mounted on a handle. They were a common sight at the theatre and the opera, and the name derives from the French word "lorgner" to ogle. The handle is topped with a spring loaded pair of glasses (aka lorgnette). The styling is typically Deco, with geometric lines topped with foliate motifs set
