1907 Photogravure Vittore Carpaccio Birth Virgin Mary Renaissance Interior XAG8 YPA3 Delhi House located at 38This is an original 1907 black and white photogravure of a piece by Venetian Renaissance artist Vittore Carpaccio (c. 1465 1525), who is best known for his conservative, large scale detachable wall paintings, which were not as humanistic in nature as the work of his other Italian contemporaries. This particular scene is of the Birth of the Virgin, with a midwife checking the temperature of the water in the basin below the reclined expectant mother.
